THE KANIA LIFE EXPERIENCE (2014-2020)

Kania Couture Inc., was a company founded by Fashion Designer Stacey Bafi-Yeboa (aka Stacey Martin), specializing in luxury womenswear design. For years, Stacey had run a local business in Fashion, performing at various fashion shows in New York, Toronto, Vancouver, and Ottawa. In 2014, while teaching at The Richard Robinson Academy of Fashion Design, I met Stacey and decided to join her on a few projects.

The Kania Life journey began after I designed a few graphic marketing materials for her existing brand. Soon after, our artist bond escalated from project to project, and I earned myself a job as the Senior Technical Designer at Kania Couture. This job lasted 7 years, and gave me incredible experiences in the Fashion Industry, from Design to Production to Marketing.  Take a look at some of my favourite projects with Kania Couture.

WORLD MASTERCARD FASHION WEEK - TORONTO (2015)

In 2015, WORLD MASTERCARD FASHION WEEK was held in Toronto, Ontario Canada. The Kania Brand was fortunate enough to participate in the primetime runway presentation, featuring notable Canadian Fashion Designers. Together we created 20 garments, choreographed for 20 models, and ran a marketing campaign for over 2 months.

For this project, I assisted in everything from the submission process, to the presentation. I was in charge of creating all technical design aspects of the campaign, including Tech Packs and Specification sheets, Schedules and Deadlines, and all Marketing Material. During the show, I was held responsible for backstage coordination and ensuring the presentation runs smoothly.

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK (2018)

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK is one of most prestigious events in the world, and it was a blessing to be part of the 2018 NYFW:THE SHOWS, showcase.

This show featured over 40 models, top industry leaders, global media and over 200 live viewers.

Before the show, I was assigned to design all marketing materials and menswear items, organize production, and manage our campaign schedules. During the showcase, I was the main communications team lead, alongside general tasks such as backstage stylist, choreographer and assistant to Head Designer.

"AUDI-BMW-MERCEDES-BENZ" FASHION SHOWS (2017-19)

Following our New York Fashion Week Collection presentation, the team at Kania Couture decided to create Encore Shows of our NYFW Runway presentation.

From 2017 to 2019, Kania teamed up with several local luxury car dealerships such as AUDI, BMW and Mercedez-Benz, all providing a beautiful venue, accessories and clientele for an incredible fashion show. We managed to fill up the venue with over 2000 attendees, clients and customers.

For these events, I aided in scheduling, team coordinations, marketing design, event planning, public speaking, and fashion styling.

RBC BLUESFEST FASHION (2015-2017)

RBC BLUESFEST is an annual 20 day outdoor concert, held at the Lebreton Flats in Ottawa Ontario. Every year, the organization brings in some of the best music talents from around the world, attracting millions of attendees, and a big boost in the artist economy.

In 2015, Kania was presented with an opportunity to head the new Fashion department for this organization. We had the task to create the official RBC Bluesfest Merchandise, and use the network to market ourselves as designers as well as an opportunity to sell to a crowd of over 5000 people on a daily.

Once again, I was in charge of all Technical Design, from creating the graphics for merchandise, to production management, and finally to promoting it on the field.

KANIA - MENSWEAR DESIGNER (2018-2020)

Since Kania was predominantly a womanswear brand, in 2018, for New York Fashion Week, we decided to introduce menswear products to the brand. We started by producing two garments for the show, and proceeded to design an entire collection thereafter.

Since I've always persited on doing a mens line at Kania, I finally got my opportunity to design the products.

I was able to put together an entire technical package of the collection, including illustrations, flats, fabric production details.

KANIA FOR TORONTO RAPTORS (2019)

This was one of my favourite projects to work on! In 2019, The MLSE Organization in Toronto approached Stacey and I, with a proposition to display a creative piece of work for auction at the MLSE for Toronto Raptors Annual Charity Event. We were honoured to take on the task and create something beautiful!

We decided to combine our favourite Kania Couture sweater with a Toronto Raptors jersey!

From here, we did some photoshoots and sold the items in the auction almost immediately!

The event consisted of all Toronto Raptors players and coaches, showcasers and VIP's. It was extravagant! We met all the players! Best part is later that season, the Raptors won their first ever NBA Championship! What a moment.

KANIA X ST.KITTS AND NEVIS (2018-2020)

SAINT KITTS and NEVIS are twin islands off the coast of the Eastern Caribbean Sea, also the native home of Kania Owner Stacey Martin.

In 2018, we decided to create a collection of garments representing her beautiful native country, and the culture they celebrates.

This project was unbelievable, as we were able to fly down to the Islands on several occasions, once to do ground research and learn the culture, and the second was to film a campaign representing freedom.

For both trips, I assisted in campaign creation, assistant to the owner in meetings with government heads, technical designer for marketing and photographers assistant on site.

This was by far one of my favourite projects and a dream come true to travel to an exotic place and work at the same time! Take a look at some pics!

THE LALA LAND EXPERIENCE (2009-2021)

In 2009, my entrepreneurial mindset began to develop largely, as I was becoming more and more creative with graphic designs. Certain commissions were in demand, and I was ready to start a business. I decided to create Lala land Exclusive Arts Ltd, a company that serves clients Artwork from myself, Arfie Lalani. Ironically the name Lala Land had nothing to do with Los Angeles, in fact, it had to do with me naming a company that would best describe my artistic vision and world. "Lala" being the first four letters of my last name, as well as a great description for "Dreamy".

Lala Land Exclusive Arts Ltd., provides Fashion Show entertainment to promote its products and services offered. I had created an entire collection of garments depicting my artistic vision and streets style, and promoted it at various shows across Canada, (Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Vancouver).

RUNWAY TO THE STREETS (2012)

In 2012, three years after I initially started the company, I moved to Montreal, Qc, where I occupied an art studio. While designing new pieces for clients, the company decided to put on an event which would display all my creations as well as other designers.

With a team of less than five people, we put together an event for the masses. We organized model auditions, photoshoots, filmmakers, musical performers and of course designers, to all perform at a high quality level. We had amazing lighting, sound and a runway built for the event.

Over 40 people participated in the event, that drew up a crowd of over 200 people.
